Vital Voices: From Functional to Financial Literacy

Hosted by the University of Houston Downtown’s College of Public Service, attendees will explore how both functional literacy and financial literacy contribute to the economic success in society.  The discussion will explore the state of financial literacy in Texas, the Mayor’s Office for Adult Literacy’s involvement in local national adult literacy initiatives impacting the economic health of our city,  and highlight how United Way of Greater Houston has been working to promote financial literacy.  Finally, US Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia will share information about the Multilingual Financial Literacy Act she introduced to reduce the impact of language barriers on financial health.
